The Vancouver Transportation Club - Women's Division (1952)

The first Women's Transportation Club in Canada was co-chaired by Mr Oswald Crawford and Mr Jack Killam on February 13, 1952, at the Devenshire Hotel in Vancouver, BC, Canada.  The first regular meeting was held in March 1952 at the Chilco Grill with 17 prospective members present.

Within 1952 the programs of the Vancouver Transportation Club - Women's Division were inaugurated to include an educational speaker, a question box and a report on current changes in transportation.  Membership drives were held during October, November and December of 1952 and the first year of the club closed with 43 members.

From 1952 the Vancouver Transportation Club - Women's Division, now known as the Vancouver Women's Transportation Club has grown in size to include every mode of transportation and most transportation supportive industries including terminal and warehouse operations, freight forwarding sector, logistics fields and education.  Included in our membership over the years we have enjoyed members from the fields of Marine Law, Canada Customs and The Vancouver Police Department.

The membership of the Vancouver Women's Transportation Club is limited to women working in the traffic and transportation field and all are welcome to come out to a meeting and be part of this dynamic group.

The Vancouver Women's Transportation Club -operating under the Society Act- supported a ward at Woodlands School in New Westminster from 1952 until its decommission and closure in 2005.  Our club supports charitable organizations in the Metro Vancouver area as well as educational bursaries in the field of traffic and transportation at University of British Columbia (UBC) and British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).

Education and personal growth, providing service and networking opportunities are a few of the benefits that women can enjoy from being a member of the Vancouver Women's Transportation Club.
